William Altekruse is an assembly mechanical puzzle designer from Austria. His symmetrical 12-piece burr puzzle ‘Altekruse Puzzle’ was patented in 1890. You can read about the Altekruse puzzle in Stewart Coffin’s fantastic book, ‘The Puzzling World of Polyhedral Dissections‘.
